Summary: The Mainframe Engineer role involves designing, developing, and maintaining COBOL applications within a high-volume mainframe environment. The position requires extensive collaboration with various teams to ensure seamless integration and modernization of existing applications. The engineer will also lead conversion initiatives and support mainframe-to-distributed system integrations. This is a remote position for a contract duration of over 12 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain COBOL applications in a high-volume mainframe environment.
- Work extensively with DB2, VSAM, and CICS for online and batch processing.
- Lead and contribute to conversion initiatives from DFHCOMMAREA to CICS Channels & Containers (Rate calc).
- Refactor and modernize existing COBOL programs, including conversion of heavy-volume VSAM-based reads to DB2-based access for improved scalability and performance. (Olympus Decommission).
- Support and implement mainframe-to-distributed system integrations using MQ and AXWAY frameworks.
- Analyze existing applications and recommend modernization or optimization strategies.
- Collaborate with distributed system teams, middleware, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration.
- Participate in code reviews, production support, defect analysis, and performance tuning.

- Strong expertise in COBOL.
- Hands-on experience with DB2, VSAM, and CICS.
- Proven experience converting DFHCOMMAREA to Channels & Containers.
- Experience with high-volume VSAM applications and migration to DB2.
