Summary: The Lead UX Researcher at Xero will spearhead qualitative and quantitative research initiatives to address customer challenges and inform strategic decisions. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver actionable insights that enhance user experience and drive business outcomes. The position is fixed-term for 12 months and emphasizes the importance of understanding customer needs within a competitive landscape. The researcher will also advocate for ethical and inclusive research practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct qualitative research using various methods to gather meaningful insights.
- Design and implement quantitative studies, including crafting insightful surveys.
- Manage project planning, prioritization, and communication of progress.
- Understand business context and apply appropriate research methodologies.
- Analyze data to identify patterns and generate new hypotheses.
- Deliver clear presentations and actionable recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Lead initiatives to improve research practices and advocate for research across the organization.
Key Skills:
- Degree or training in Design Research or equivalent experience.
- Portfolio showcasing impactful communication of insights and business outcomes.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Deep understanding of user-centered design principles.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring design teams.
- Experience in a fast-paced, agile product environment is preferred.

- Data analysis and interpretation - You’re skilled in identifying patterns, interpreting findings and generating new hypotheses. Collaborating across teams, you'll connect data and draw holistic conclusions.
- Communicate and influence - You'll craft concise, compelling presentations and confidently deliver clear, actionable recommendations that influence senior stakeholders and shape roadmaps and strategy.
- Practice improvement - You'll lead initiatives to improve the research practice. Advocating for research across the organisation, you’ll build capability beyond the team, and champion ethical and inclusive research.
What you'll bring with you
- A degree or training in a Design Research course — or equivalent work experience
- A portfolio of work that demonstrates high-quality and influential communication of insights, highlighting the business impact and taking ownership of reaching business outcomes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and influence product strategy.
- A deep understanding of user-centred design principles and a passion for creating intuitive and engaging experiences.
- Proven experience coaching and mentoring design teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Ideally, experience working in a fast paced, agile product environment.
