Summary: The Archive Assistant role involves working within a small team to digitize and preserve paper archives, including cataloguing and maintaining inventory. Detailed Description From Employer:

Working in a small and Archives Team of two this role involves ongoing work of digitalisation of paper archives, preservation of old papers (unpack, treat, repair, catalogue and file documents).

Your responsibilities would include the following:

  • Cataloguing archive collections (physical and digital files) to a professional standard using bespoke archive systems,
  • Maintaining logs and inventories,
  • Supporting with the digitisation project and research requests,
  • Providing support to archive researchers and contributing to the running of the archive team's activities,
  • Some physical work: reconditioning of files, listing contents of collections, preparing files for researchers and supervising a researcher, keeping inventory of the archive collection.

This is a 3 month contract starting ASAP on 80-100% basis to support an ongoing project.

In order to be considered for this role, you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Archives management degree or previous relevant experience working in an archive (previous experience working in an archive could be taken into consideration in lieu of a professional qualification)
  • Good working knowledge of Excel
  • Interest/background in the history of economics nice to have
  • Fluency in English (German advantageous)
