Private Sector Housing Officer

Summary: The Private Sector Housing Officer role involves supporting housing standards, licensing, and enforcement activities within the private rented sector for a Surrey local authority. The position requires investigating housing complaints, managing HMO licenses, and conducting property inspections. The officer will also engage in welfare visits related to the Homes for Ukraine initiative and prepare legal files as necessary. Strong experience in housing enforcement and knowledge of relevant legislation is essential for this interim position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Investigate private sector housing complaints and carry out enforcement
• Manage HMO licences end-to-end, including inspections
• Undertake property inspections under the Housing Act 2004
• Support caravan site inspections and enforcement
• Carry out Homes for Ukraine property and welfare visits
• Prepare legal files where required and provide advice to landlords and tenants

Key Skills:

• Strong experience in private sector housing and enforcement
• Sound knowledge of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 2004
• Experience working with vulnerable residents and safeguarding
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
