Summary: The Network Engineer role involves joining an IT team to support a mission-critical network environment, focusing on the design, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure. The position requires a skilled individual capable of ensuring high performance, security, and reliability within the network. The successful candidate will engage in troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration with vendors to enhance network capabilities. This role is based in various locations including Leamington Spa, Gaydon, Solihull, and Coventry, with a hybrid working arrangement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and support the wider network environment in mission-critical conditions.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex network issues.
  • Develop technical documentation for new and existing network builds/configuration.
  • Gather requirements from customers and coordinate with vendors (cabling, ISPs, etc.).
  • Perform network modelling, analysis, planning, and hardware installation.
  • Upgrade network hardware and software components as needed.
  • Map and monitor end-to-end network performance.

Key Skills:

  • Hands-on experience in at least 4–5 live customer projects (network refresh/upgrade).
  • Ability to create HLD & LLD documents and draw architecture diagrams.
  • Strong knowledge of firewalls and security technologies: Pulse Secure SSL VPN, Cisco ASA VPN, Checkpoint, Palo Alto, VMware NSX.
  • Experience with authentication systems: SAML, SSO, LDAP, MS Active Directory.
  • Deep understanding of IPSEC, GRE, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS protocols.
  • Experience with Proxy, SSL, and cybersecurity technologies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Visio for network diagrams.
  • Strong LAN/WAN networking experience, including troubleshooting Cisco environments: Nexus Switches (1000v–9000 series), Cisco Enterprise Routers (3900, 3800) & LAN Switches (3700, 3500, 2900 series).
  • Knowledge of BIG-IP F5 Load Balancers and wireless technologies (WLCs, APs).
  • Network sniffers/log capture: Wireshark, Ethereal, SolarWinds, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7+ years in network engineering or related roles (negotiable depending on technical skills).
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting and supporting large-scale Cisco networks.
  • Familiarity with network upgrade projects and high-availability environments.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Client-facing and able to coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Assertive, supportive, and able to lead or be a key team member.
  • Ability to work on-call or weekends as needed (with prior notice).
