Mechanical Technician

Summary: The Mechanical Technician role involves performing overhaul and modification duties on rolling stock, specifically focusing on various bogie fleets. The technician will conduct inspections, repairs, and maintenance tasks while adhering to safety protocols and procedures. This position requires collaboration with team members and the ability to manage tools and equipment effectively. The role is based in North London and operates on a rotating shift pattern.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out initial inspections of wheelsets and report findings.
• Remove axle bearings and prepare them for dispatch.
• Perform paint removal and painting activities on components.
• Drain and fill oil on wheelset gearboxes and couplings.
• Assist with the cleaning of rolling stock as required.
• Support team members in bogie and wheelset overhauls.
• Identify, order, and collect spares and materials from stores.
• Maintain accurate records of actions and operations.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations, including COSHH.

Key Skills:

• Experience in mechanical/electrical engineering or process environments.
• Basic fault-finding skills.
• Ability to accurately complete records and follow procedures.
• Understanding of health and safety practices.
• Proficient in using computers and interpreting technical publications.
• Capability to produce detailed technical reports.
