Summary: The role is for experienced General Practitioners to provide high-quality clinical services on a self-employed basis within Out-of-Hours settings. The position emphasizes patient-centered care and offers an opportunity for GPs to enhance their skills while maintaining a better work/life balance. This face-to-face role requires GPs to work across various locations in the East of England, specifically in urgent treatment clinics. The operational hours include evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, ensuring comprehensive patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold the principles of the General Medical Council’s “Good Medical Practice” and represent HUC and the NHS professionally.
- Make independent, professional decisions to address individual patient issues effectively.
- Evaluate and address the healthcare needs of patients presenting with undiagnosed or undefined conditions.
- Maintain accurate, clear, and timely consultation records in line with agreed professional standards.
- Prescribe treatments appropriately, adhering to the HUC prescribing formulary.
- Manage case lists proactively to minimize reliance on face-to-face services.
- Ensure all cases are handled promptly, providing patient support or reallocating cases if delays occur.
- Collaborate closely with operational managers on duty to deliver seamless services and achieve clinical and quality outcomes.
- Adhere to safeguarding protocols and uphold best practices in clinical governance.
Key Skills:
- Fully qualified GP with GMC registration and included in the GP Register.
- Annual appraisal and revalidation.
- General practice (Vocational Training Scheme) with MRCGP examination or equivalent.
- On the relevant medical performers list with no conditions preventing working or restrictions on practice.
- Full professional indemnity.
- Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations.
- Be a practising GP.

This is a face-to-face role including base and visiting. Remote shifts are not available.
Our urgent treatment clinics locations are as below:
- Hertfordshire : Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City, Hertford, St Albans, Borehamwood, Watford, Hemel Hempstead
- West Essex : Harlow, Great Dunmow
- Cambridgeshire : Peterborough, Cambridge, Huntingdon, Doddington, Ely, Wisbech
- Bedfordshire: Luton, Dunstable, Bedford, Biggleswade
Operational Hours: Monday to Friday: 19:00 – 08:00;
Weekends and Bank Holidays: 24 hours a day

Prescribe treatments appropriately, adhering to the HUC prescribing formulary.
Manage case lists proactively to minimize reliance on face-to-face services, including ambulance referrals, A&E visits, urgent care centres, and out-of-hours services.
Ensure all cases are handled promptly, providing patient support or reallocating cases if delays occur.
Collaborate closely with operational managers on duty to deliver seamless services and achieve clinical and quality outcome.
Adhere to safeguarding protocols and uphold best practices in clinical governance.
HUC provides the NHS111 and Out of Hours GP service to over 4.5 million patients across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, West Essex and the South West of England.
We are looking for independent, self-employed General Practitioner to provide services in our UTC and OOH clinics, on a face to face basis.
Upon receiving your expression of interest, you will be sent a link to upload your compliance documents via Credentially platform. Once approved, you will be given access to the Rota Master.
Essential requirements include:
- Fully qualified GP with GMC registration and included in the GP Register.
- Annual appraisal and revalidation.
