Summary: The role of Project Manager focuses on supporting the rapid delivery of mission-critical capabilities in response to Urgent Capability Requirements (UCRs) for a leading Defence prime. The position requires advising on procurement, development, and deployment activities while managing operational risks and supporting internal change programs. Candidates must possess live SC clearance and relevant experience in high-pressure project management environments. The role is primarily on-site in Luton, requiring four days a week attendance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on rapid acquisition and deployment of critical capabilities outside standard delivery timelines.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and compress acquisition cycles.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies in high-pressure environments.
  • Engage with programme leadership, stakeholders, suppliers, and delivery teams to provide clear progress reporting and manage priorities.
  • Support resource and budget management within fast-paced operational programmes.
  • Ensure delivery meets required safety, legal, and operational standards, while supporting governance or compliance alleviations where appropriate.

Key Skills:

  • Live security clearance (SC).
  • UCR (Urgent Capability Requirements) delivery to the UK MOD.
  • Extensive experience in project/programme management within high-pressure or urgent delivery environments.
  • Background in defence, crisis management, rapid operational capability delivery, IT/infrastructure emergency response or similar sectors.
  • Professional certification such as PMP or PRINCE2.
  • Proven ability to make critical decisions under pressure and manage ambiguity effectively.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Agile and adaptable approach to delivery and problem-solving.
  • Experience supporting organisational change or transformation programmes.

Project Manager (Urgent Capability Requirements) Luton HQ – 4 days a week onsite SC Clearance essential (SC) Up to £107 p/h Outside IR35 A leading Defence prime are looking to onboard an experienced Urgent Capability Requirements Project Manager, this will be to support the rapid delivery of mission-critical capabilities in response to Urgent Capability Requirements (UCRs). The role will advise the IPT Lead on accelerating procurement, development, and deployment activities, while streamlining processes, managing operational risk and supporting an internal change programme.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Live security clearance (SC)
  • UCR ( Urgent Capability Requirements) delivery to the UK MOD
  • Extensive experience in project/programme management within high-pressure or urgent delivery environments.
