Summary: The role of Interim Chief Financial Officer is for a private equity-backed technology business in a critical growth phase, requiring immediate stabilization of operations and professionalization of the finance function. The position involves leading financial activities, implementing robust systems, and ensuring effective governance in preparation for anticipated growth. The contract duration is 4-6 months, with a hybrid working arrangement based in Bristol.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the finance workstream and act as a key adviser across all commercial and operational due diligence activities in preparation for PE investment.
  • Set up a finance function that is fully “fit for purpose” post-investment, including processes, controls, reporting frameworks, and system implementation.
  • Select, implement, and/or scale finance systems, with proficiency in Xero (or the capability to establish it effectively within a PE-backed growth environment).
  • Provide strong technical governance and control, including audit preparation and completion, and oversight of client account management.
  • Review and analyse overheads and the overall cost base to support financial stability and improved insights.

Key Skills:

  • Extensive pre- and post-deal experience within private-equity–backed environments, including supporting PE sponsors through transaction execution and value-creation planning.
  • Strong commercial capability, with an understanding of KPIs, performance drivers, forecasting, and the creation of meaningful MI.
  • Deep technical understanding of debt instruments, including the ability to review and manage bank covenants, loan notes, and lender reporting requirements.
  • Experience in debt advisory or leverage finance, including structuring, negotiating, and managing debt facilities.
  • Advanced financial modelling skills, comfortable operating without revenue-recognition frameworks and able to build and interpret models that support decision-making.
  • Knowledge of the technology sector and/or fast-growth SMEs.
  • Proven experience as a CFO/FD with investor and PE stakeholder engagement.
  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional qualification.

We are working on a confidential mandate for a PE-backed B2B technology business seeking an Interim CFO at a pivotal stage of private equity investment. The business is based in the Midlands. There is an immediate need to stabilise operations—particularly around cashflow forecasting and overhead management—and to professionalise the finance function in preparation for anticipated growth.
