Summary: The role of Senior Employee Relations Manager or HR Business Partner is a fixed-term position aimed at covering maternity leave within a large, complex, unionised organisation undergoing significant change. The successful candidate will provide expert advice on employee relations, act as a strategic partner to senior leaders, and manage HR Advisors to enhance employee relations capabilities. This position requires a strong understanding of UK employment law and experience in managing complex employee relations issues. The role also involves liaising with unions and implementing HR initiatives to improve employee engagement and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert ER advice on complex and sensitive issues, including disciplinaries, grievances, absence management, and performance issues.
- Act as a strategic business partner to senior leaders, advising on people strategy and workforce planning.
- Lead or support business transformation, restructuring, and change initiatives.
- Manage and coach HR Advisors to build ER capability across the function.
- Monitor employment legislation and ensure policies and practices remain compliant and up-to-date.
- Support the implementation of HR initiatives that drive engagement and improve employee experience.
- Liaise with Unions and Employee groups.
Key Skills:
- CIPD qualified (or equivalent) with significant HR and ER experience at a senior level.
- Proven track record managing complex employee relations issues in a fast-paced environment.
- Confident influencing and advising senior stakeholders with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.
- Strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practices.
- Experience in change management, organisational design or restructuring projects is advantageous.
- Collaborative and resilient, with excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
