Summary: The role of Senior Employee Relations (ER) Manager or HR Business Partner is a fixed-term position aimed at covering maternity leave within a large, complex, unionised organisation undergoing significant change. The successful candidate will provide expert ER advice, act as a strategic partner to senior leaders, and manage HR Advisors while ensuring compliance with employment legislation. This position requires a strong understanding of UK employment law and a proven track record in managing complex employee relations issues. The role also involves liaising with unions and implementing HR initiatives to enhance employee engagement and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert ER advice on complex and sensitive issues, including disciplinaries, grievances, absence management, and performance issues.
  • Act as a strategic business partner to senior leaders, advising on people strategy and workforce planning.
  • Lead or support business transformation, restructuring, and change initiatives.
  • Manage and coach HR Advisors to build ER capability across the function.
  • Monitor employment legislation and ensure policies and practices remain compliant and up-to-date.
  • Support the implementation of HR initiatives that drive engagement and improve employee experience.
  • Liaise with Unions and Employee groups.

Key Skills:

  • CIPD qualified (or equivalent) with significant HR and ER experience at a senior level.
  • Proven track record managing complex employee relations issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confident influencing and advising senior stakeholders with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.
  • Strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practices.
  • Experience in change management, organisational design or restructuring projects is advantageous.
  • Collaborative and resilient, with excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.

Salary (Rate): £70,000
