Key Responsibilities:
- Provide commercial support to senior staff and expert advice on procurements, contracts, and supplier management.
- Lead commercial assurance of requirements, ensuring compliance with Cabinet Office Spend Controls and managing stakeholders.
- Engage with internal stakeholders to maintain commercial pipelines and identify savings.
- Utilize Atamis Procurement Software Solution for managing procurement and category activities.
Key Skills:
- Commercial experience within central government, including leadership of high-value procurements.
- Ability to design and deliver competitive processes under tight deadlines.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience in managing commercial risks.

- Experience in contract management of large contracts and key suppliers.
- Professional qualifications such as CIPS/MCIPS, CMCP, or equivalent are desirable.

SmartSourcing are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to provide high quality commercial leadership and assurance across the full procurement life cycle. The postholder will work closely with senior commercial colleagues to ensure that all commercial activity is planned, governed and delivered in line with our clients requirements. The role will contribute to the development of commercial strategy, support the delivery of complex procurements, and strengthen contract and supplier management across the organisation.
Key Duties Responsibilities
Commercial support to senior staff Provide expert commercial advice by leading or supporting new procurements, contract activity and supplier management initiatives.
Commercial assurance - Lead the commercial assurance of requirements, ensuring compliance with Cabinet Office Spend Controls and the NCA Commercial Assurance Board, and managing stakeholders through all governance stages.
Internal stakeholder engagement - Work collaboratively with internal partners to maintain the commercial pipeline, registers and records, supporting forward planning and the identification and realisation of commercial savings.
Procurement systems management - Utilise the Atamis Procurement Software Solution to manage and track procurement and category management activities.
Essential Criteria
Commercial experience gained predominantly within central government, including:
Independent leadership of high value and high risk complex procurements
Designing and delivering competitive processes to challenging deadlines
Applying professional judgement to secure optimal commercial outcomes
Active management, reporting and mitigation of commercial risks
Demonstrating competent negotiation skills to ensure value for money
Leadership capability - Ability to lead and develop commercial colleagues in procurement best practice.
Networking skills - Ability to build and maintain a cross government commercial network to support continuous improvement and collaborative outcomes.
Contract management - Experience supporting or leading the management of large contracts and key suppliers.
Desirable Criteria
Professional qualification such as CIPS/MCIPS, CMCP, Expert, or equivalent
Experience in DDaT and Professional Services categories
