Summary: The Interim Charity Accountant role involves leading SORP-compliant charity accounts for a local government authority, focusing on compliance with regulations and minimal office presence. Key Responsibilities:

  • SORP-Compliant Accounts: Review and prepare charity/trust accounts, ensuring full compliance with SORP and regulatory standards.
  • Financial Rectification: Identify and correct historic errors in financial records, working closely with external partners on 2025/26 accounts.
  • Property-Linked Accounting: Resolve data challenges with property-related trust records in collaboration with internal and external teams.
  • Balance Sheet Oversight: Support the council's review and reconciliation of its balance sheet.
  • Governance & Controls: Strengthen financial governance through clearer policies and procedures.
  • Flexible Support: Assist the wider finance team with balance sheet and operational tasks as needed.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience preparing charity/trust accounts in line with SORP and Charity Commission regulations
  • Strong understanding of local government finance and public sector accounting practices
  • Ability to identify and resolve historic financial discrepancies

We're supporting a local authority to appoint an Interim Charity Accountant for a 6-month assignment. This hands-on role is key to strengthening charity and trust accounting, ensuring compliance with SORP and Charity Commission regulations - with
