Summary: The Cable Installation Manager will oversee the planning and design phase of a significant interconnector project involving high-voltage cable systems. This role requires extensive technical expertise in cable installation methodologies and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The position is contract-based, located in Glasgow, with potential travel to project sites. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with industry standards and contribute to the development of detailed plans for construction execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide installation and constructability input during the planning and design stages of 400 kV AC and 525 kV DC land cable systems.
  • Review engineering and design documentation, ensuring installation feasibility, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Develop preliminary installation methodologies, resource plans, risk assessments, and schedule inputs.
  • Contribute to the preparation of method statements, ITPs, logistics studies, and construction work packs.
  • Support route selection, site access planning, and interface coordination with civil, electrical, and environmental disciplines.
  • Liaise with procurement and project teams to define contractor scopes, technical specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Ensure health, safety, and environmental considerations are integrated into all installation planning activities.
  • Provide technical support during design reviews and participate in design risk assessments and constructability workshops.
  • Prepare documentation and strategies that will inform the transition into the construction phase.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience in high-voltage AC and DC cable installation, including 400 kV AC and/or 525 kV DC systems.
  • Strong background in planning, engineering, or construction management within large-scale transmission, interconnector, or grid infrastructure projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of land cable installation practices, including trenching, jointing, pulling, termination, and testing.
  • Solid understanding of HSE legislation, CDM regulations, and safe design principles.
  • Strong communication, reporting, and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Ability to review and interpret complex design and construction documentation.
  • Proficiency with scheduling and planning tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
  • Degree or HND in Electrical, Civil, or Power Engineering (desirable).
  • Experience supporting design-phase constructability reviews or early works planning on HV infrastructure projects (desirable).
  • Familiarity with UK transmission or interconnector standards (National Grid, IEC, CIGRÉ) (desirable).
  • CSCS / ECS / SMSTS certification (desirable).

Contract Position: 6-12 months contract assignment, subject to extension. We are seeking an experienced Cable Installation Manager to support the planning and design phase of a major interconnector project involving 400 kV AC and 525 kV DC land cable systems . The successful candidate will play a key role in defining installation methodologies, reviewing design deliverables, and developing detailed plans and procedures for future construction execution. This position requires strong technical expertise in high-voltage cable installation and a proactive, collaborative approach to support multidisciplinary design and engineering teams. This is a contract position based in Glasgow , with occasional travel to project or partner locations as required.
