We are looking for experienced midwives, to join our Bank Midwifery Team as part of our award winning midwifery service. An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated, enthusiastic, experienced and client centered midwives to join the bank to supplement our well-established community Midwifery teams as well as our hospital environment. Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust provides maternity services to approximately 7,000 mothers, birthing people and their babies every year. We run obstetric units at the Queen Elizabeth, Woolwich and University Hospital Lewisham. We have very successful co-aligned Birth Centre on both sites. Both Obstetric Units have water birth pools and facilities to support clients to have the birth they want. Our diverse client population provides us with constant challenges and we strive to provide the highest standard of care. We have considerable expertise at caring for clients with complex and high risk needs and our award winning specialist midwives consistently provide the highest standard of multi agency care. Our community teams cover a vast geographical area in which they provide care within a range of different settings, facilitating bookings, ante and post natal clinics as well as post natal care within the home.
Main duties of the job The post holder will be required to provide the full remit of midwifery care for women, birthing people, birthing people. The post holder should have a philosophy that is client centered, promotes choice and actively uses approaches to give clientsthe birth they want. Midwives will work within a team including maternity support workers to provideappropriate care for women, birthing people and their families. The teaching and supervision of student midwives is expected and encouraged. The post holder will be designated to take charge of a ward area in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility. The post holder is expected to work in any area required to cover service needs anddemands.

Job Description Job responsibilities Clinical: 1.1 Maintain a high standard of midwifery care based on evidence based practice 1.2 Promote infant feeding throughout pregnancy and help with infant feeding, as determined by women / birthing peoples informed choice. 1.3 Keep up to date with changes and developments in midwifery care and participate in any research projects applicable to the maternity unit. 1.4 Be confident and competent in all areas of midwifery, therefore able to carry out total midwifery care during the whole period of admission. 1.5 Participate in review of clinical practice. 1.6 Maintain statutory records any other records that are required locally, including maternity computer systems, e.g. iCare. 1.7 Can demonstrate competence in perineal repair & cannulation. 1.8 Complete mandatory training, including four x CTG workshops annually. 1.9 Give Clinical Guidance To Other Colleagues As Required. 1.10 Act as a Mentor to student midwives and maintain Live sign -off status. 1.11 Plan, organise and participate in Parent Education teaching in the department.
Professional: 2.1 Maintain NMC registration and ensure that the Notification of Intention to Practice is submitted annually. 2.2 Revalidate with NMC every three years, by providing appropriate evidence to their confirmer as requested. 2.3 Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and the Midwives Rules. Ensure that other NMC documents/standards and Trust guidelines are adhered to. Maintain and develop professional knowledge and competence in accordance with NMC recommendations. Maintain a responsible attitude to spending within that budget. This job involves contact with blood, tissue and other bodily fluids.
