Summary: The Assistant Accountant role in Grimsby involves supporting the Head of Finance with operational, analytical, and compliance activities. The position requires managing financial processes, improving systems, and delivering insightful reporting in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will oversee accounts receivable, payable, payroll, and assist with financial reporting and compliance. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, expenses, and credit control.
  • Support collections and manage GRNI balances.
  • Lead month-end close activities including ledger maintenance and reconciliations.
  • Manage weekly cash flow and approve payables.
  • Act as escalation point for AR/AP issues.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and support invoice financing reconciliation.
  • Coordinate year-end close and liaise with external auditors and accountants.
  • Assist with legal and Company Secretary duties.
  • Provide ad hoc support to the Head of Finance and Directors.
  • Deliver timely and accurate monthly management accounts with commentary.
  • Prepare weekly flash reports and other periodic financial updates.
  • Support costing analysis and operational reporting (yield, labour, wastage).
  • Analyse sales, margins, labour, and overheads.
  • Collaborate with budget holders on forecasts and monthly reviews.
  • Prepare reports for banks, shareholders, and other stakeholders.
  • Produce ad hoc reports and support senior management as needed.
  • Document and improve financial processes and internal controls.
  • Review policies to enhance cash flow and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and statutory obligations.
  • Drive continuous improvement across finance systems and processes.
  • Support ERP system implementation and management.
  • Ensure timely completion of regulatory reports and R&D grant applications.
  • Maintain accuracy across all financial ledgers and reconciliations.

Key Skills:

  • AAT qualified or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a finance role.
  • Experience in food manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
  • Comfortable working across all levels of the finance function.
  • High IT literacy, especially in Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Xero is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proactive, accountable team player who strives for continuous improvement.
